On 18 September 2013, Premier Helen Zille and the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, announced the winners of the inaugural Premier’s Entrepreneurship Recognition Award at a ceremony at the Mount Nelson Hotel. Minister Winde said this formed part of a campaign to foster a culture of entrepreneurship in the province, and to give deserving entrepreneurs the chance to grow their businesses and create jobs for fellow citizens. “It’s important to recognise and award small businesses that do well. They are the engine room of our economy. In this province, our number one priority is to grow the economy and create jobs and SMME’s make a significant contribution to that goal,” said Minister Winde. What is particularly worth noting is that this wasn’t a startup award, or a mobile competition. This was an award made on the basis of the strength of the business case for GoMetro against very different businesses. Well done to the team!
