Salt river Upgrade
Prasa is modernizing the Salt River depot to service the new rolling stock
Prasa is in the process of giving all stations a new look. This forms part of the drive to modernize facilities and bring them up to an international standard. The Salt River depot is part of this modernization program and work should begin from 19 January.
The demolition will be split into phases, with the first taking approximately three months to complete. This phase will only be mechanical and will not include any blasting. Prasa aims to upgrade and construct a fully functional, modern maintenance depot which will support and service our new trains. The depot will meet the maintenance demands of Prasa’s new fleet and existing Metrorail trains.
The modernization will mainly consist of the refurbishment and upgrade of selected buildings, the construction of additional operational buildings and the reconstruction of the staging yard. The initial phase of the work will include the demolition of existing buildings in preparation for the upgrade.
Prasa would like to apologize for any interruptions during the construction period, as we work towards building a state-of-the-art depot to service our new rolling stock.
Adjoining establishments, motorists and pedestrians are notified of:
Increased traffic passing in and out of the main entrance off Malta Road.
Increased dust and noise levels.
Periodic traffic obstructions due to construction.
